How do I get started in the SCA?
So you have always thought you were born in the wrong time. You are meant to be living in a castle, donning armor and charging into battle on your mighty war horse, perhaps attending the ball dressed in the finest clothing, dancing to the music of lute and lyre, or a spice merchant who has traveled the world wide from England to the mysterious far eastern lands on horseback and by sailing ship.

Welcome to these modern middle ages. The Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA) is a non profit, educational organization based on the middle ages. We learn about the past by doing things in the manner they were “in the good ole days”. Most every thing that was done in the middle ages that could be fun, a hobby today is done in the SCA. The list includes metal working, armoring, costuming, weaving, cooking, brewing, venting archery, sword fighting and horse riding.

So how do I get started?
Here are some web sites that can help you on your journey:

This will give you a good start. Remember there are many different ideas on how to play the game. You will find other web sites and meet many people with more information for you. Go to your local practices and ask folks what they are doing (we love to talk about our projects). Find what you think is the best for you and run with it. If you would like any assistance in finding out more information, locating someone with the same interests as you have, or getting started in to an activity, please I encourage you to contact me at chatelaine@ruantallan.org and I will be happy to assist.
