Heraldry Links

For beginners:

Laurel's Education Page
The Laurel Queen of Arms' (the SCA's head heraldic person) site, containing many excellent articles aimed at the beginner in heraldry.
www.sca.org/heraldry/laurel/education.html

Modar's Heraldry Page
Based in Calontir, this wonderful site has advice on everything from choosing a name to methods of creating banners once you've designed a device.
www2.kumc.edu/itc/staff/rknight/heraldry.htm

Academy of St. Gabriel
Some of their stuff may go over your head as someone new to heraldry, but if you are looking for a name, this is one of the best resources out there. Their library contains thousands of names; and, it's all organized by country and time period. Also, if you are thinking of a name you want, but can't find it anywhere, you can submit it to them, and they will write you back after a bit of time (they get a lot of requests, and it's a lot of work) with an evaluation of the name, as well as possible alternatives. And their evaluations are acceptable as documentation when submitting your name to the College of Heralds!

For heralds and herald-want-to-bes:

SCA College of Arms, Laurel Page
Contains most of the official Society documents, Laurel submission archives, contacts for principal heralds of each kingdom, and much more.
